In the 1800’s Cornwall was on the move. Many families opted for the opportunities offered in the ‘new world’ and left the county to go to new lives in Australia or the USA as well as other destinations. Many of these families travelled to Liverpool to join their ships and some of them stayed. Well into the 20th century there was a large firm of stevedores on Liverpool docks owned by a Boase family.
WH Boase & Co Ltd, master porters and stevedores were in business in the city at least from 1897 – 1938 and I believe into the 1960’s
